Usually a customer requests to have the phone unlocked; we don't do it automatically. We have an Unlocking FAQ page you can take a look at @grgcombe to get you started. Once you've reviewed the policy, if you believe your iPhone qualifies to be unlocked, you can contact Boost to request it. You'll want to get this done before you leave for your trip; you need to be within coverage for it to work.
