device unlock

to give a stright forward question. i have a iphone 6. had it with boost for less then 6 months i'd say 3 to 4 months. ive read that you have to be on boost mobile for 12 months to unlock the device. if that is true? do i have a useless device in my hands? can i not use it anywhere else because i didn't use it long enough with boost. i'd really like to know. i don't want to change  to boost only to use a phone i purchased from you. that would be to put it simple, pretty dumb. i'd really like to unlock it so i can use it on another carrier of my own choice.

Re: device unlock

Hello there, thank you for reaching out. We understand your concerns about the phone that you’d like to get unlocked. It is in fact true that in order for us to get a device unlocked, it has to meet the device unlock policy requirements.
We can help with unlocking a device under the following circumstances:
•    The device is SIM unlock capable
•    The device has not been reported as lost or stolen or otherwise flagged as ineligible to be unlocked
•    The device has been active on the associated account for at least 12 months
