Moto e5 plus Defective. Return and refund

Hello boost,

I have been a customer of boost for almost a decade now. I recently purchased the moto e5 plus from, i just received it as of 4/3/19. Upon activation, i have had trouble with connecting the device to my wifi connection. I have tried several times to make a connection, but it only connects for 20 seconds at a time. I have concluded that this device is defective. I have called customer care and received return authorization numbers, but i find it insane that i have to pay shipping and handling to send back a defective phone. Are there any options for returning the device without money coming out of my pockets
