Changed to daily plan before due date

I had a family plan with 2 lines ($50 plans) that I had to change to daily for the next couple days. I selected start on 5/20 for both numbers because that is when our next payment was due. Immediately both phones switched plans. I added $6 to each phone that should have carried us through 5/22.
So now technically we have doubled paid for today (our previous plan was still active),, lost the last of my hotspot I should have been anle to use until tomorrow and will not have service through Tuesday night like I had planned. Why give the option to make changes at the end of our previous plan if it is not honored? I would have waited until tomorrow with none of this issue if it had stated changes were immediate.
