6 Ways Classic Dance is Still Alive!

Do you love those romantic old-time movies of the 1920s, with the glitz and glam? What about the music and dancing? How about the classic black and white films starring Fred Astaire, Ginger Rodgers, or Eleanor Powell? Did you fall in love with how the float across the screen? Maybe you are thinking “yes, but that time period is past, dead, long gone!” What if I told you it wasn’t? Kansas City has many venues that still support this kind of dance (ballroom and swing) and music. Here is a list of venues to check out:

  • The Chesterfield

On Friday nights you can get a FREE dance lesson for beginner’s swing at 8:30 PM and join in the fun of the social dance at 9 PM hosted by Kansas City Lindy Hop (founded in 2011).   •  Allegro Ballroom

In the Grand Plaza a variety of events are held, such as the Gatsby Swing at the Station and the upcoming New Year’s Swinging Eve Swing Party, both featuring the Kansas City Jazz Orchestra.
