Switched to one phone but need to switch back.

We switched one of the a20’s on my family plan to a Moto G Fast, but ended up having to return the Moto G Fast. When we went to put the a20 back on the account, it informed us that we needed some sort of update? The phone is entirely updated and had been working just fine before this.
