Cannot activate Expanded Network SIM

I received my new iPhone XR (ordered from the Boost Mobile site) which came along with a new expanded network SIM.  I went through all the instructions verbatim but got an error when trying to associate the new SIM with the phone.  Online tech support informed me that the SIM had not been "scanned" and that I would need to purchase a new expanded network SIM from the Boost Mobile store.  They credited my account $10 so I could make the purchase.  Now I just have to wait another 3-5 days for the new SIM to arrive because Boost is to cheap to pay for the expedited overnight shipping.  This is just sloppy customer service.  Why not just overnight me a new SIM without making me jump through hoops to correct Boost's mistake?  Seriously considering dropping Boost altogether after this experience
