The so called free new 5G SIM card

I received a text and email telling me all I had to do was visit a store and receive a new 5G SIM card. There "might be" an upgrade charge. So I finally called around to find a local Boost store, since ours mysteriously shut down, and was informed yeah...come on in. Okay. These words are the sales lady's exact words...but you'll need to change your whole plan whether you like it or not because I'm February 2022 everybody's doing it forcefully. Me... Excuse me?! Then I don't want it. Her words... You don't have a choice and your plan will be changed. Me... Then I guess I'll be leaving Boost if that happens. Anybody else being threatened with this or has anybody even looked into it?

Hi there! Thank you for bringing this to our attention. We're dedicated to making sure our customers have the best service possible. Upgrading to our new Expanded Data Network is the best way to do that. Although the network shutdown was announced recently, you have until December to upgrade to our new Expanded Data Network. Your service will continue to work during this time. In some cases, our older plans are not compatible with the new Expanded Data Network. A plan change to a compatible plan may be required in order to upgrade to our new network. The great news is, these newer plans come with enhanced features at or near the same price point. You can check our current price plans here.

MY ISSUE IS THAT ALL OF A SUDDEN I AM DROPPING CALLS; GETTING A MESSEGE THAT I HAVE NO SIM CARD AND CAN ONLY MAKE EMERGENCY CALLS. THEY DID A TROUBLESHOOT AND FOUND THERE WAS AN "OUTTAGE" AT MY HOME AND JOB ADDRESS. SO THEY SUGGESTED THE 5G SIM CARD BUT AT AN INCREASE TO MY MONTHLY BILL. ONE OF THEIR TACTICS TO "FORCE" PEOPLE TO PAY MORE. THINK IT'S BS...IF YOU ARE PAYING A CERTAIN AMOUNT EACH MONTH WHY DOES THE PRICE CHANGE JUST BECAUSE YOU GET A NEW SIM CARD. JUST ADJUST THE PRICE TO WHAT THE CUSTOMER CURRENTLY PAYS. BOOST DOESN'T CARE IF THIS INCREASE IS A HARDSHIP - JUST ANOTHER WAY TO GET PEOPLES MONEY...BUT THAT'S JUST MY OPINION...

@DIDDY718 Try doing a factory reset on your phone.  It will erase all photos and programs you have installed, back everything up first and then do it!

I brought my iPhone xr in for the sim swap and they said they were having issues to come back in a little while. I left my phone there for 6 hours when I went to pick it up the lady said I’m sorry your phone isn’t accepting the SIM card and we can’t put the old one back in. I have been dealing with this for 10 days  in the meantime I have no phone because without the sim you can’t make calls texts or anything else I’ve done everything boostmobile asked me to and there supervisor said  it’s not there promblem I need to just buy a new phone. My phone worked perfect before I brought it in after they did whatever they did it no longer works. They won’t replace the phone I asked for them to give me 10 percent off on a new one they said absolutely not. Also I have 3 other iPhones this needs to be done on and the guy said yea just buy 3 new ones… I think they are doing this to push people into having to buy new phones or upgrade to a more expensive plan

@Kim19992 Same thing happened with me this past Sunday. Took my perfectly working Galaxy S8 in just to see what my options are, without even asking dude tried to put in a new SIM card. Had to call someone on his phone to see why it wasn't doing what he expected. And then got off the phone and told me apparently my phone wasn't compatible with the expanded network and he couldn't undo what he did so my phone was no longer functional. So I had to get a new phone. But since it's the holidays and I didn't plan to need to get a phone right then I had to downgrade from an S8 to a moto G 😒.

I'm now saving to get a better phone with a new carrier.

@Eden720  He wasn't truthful with you.  I have the same phone as you.  I am having problems sending photos and gif's through text but my phone is working.

@Kim19992  Do a factory reset and go to a different boost mobile.  The guy we had was an idiot!

Yep, same thing happened to me. I ended up having to spend money that I didn't expect to have to spend. They don't care about their customers because I told them this is b.s. and if they didn't give me a new phone for free I was going to switch carriers and they wouldn't budge. But, they are stupid because they make most of their money thru monthly payments, not by selling phones. This is something we do have a choice in: make it your vote..switch to a better network like consumer cellular, I believe that's the one that uses Verizon's network at around 30 dollars a month. Or it may be pure talk. But either way, you don't have to take their crap, just leave and if enough people do it, I guarantee you they will start changing some policies and respecting their customers better. Good luck, and no, I'm not working for any phone company lol

I've been with Sprint and Boost Mobile for over 20 years.  A faithful customer. I stopped in last month to get the new T-Mobile sim card and have had nothing but problems since then!  I can't send photos or gif's through text.  I have been on the phone with them several times to no avail.  I keep getting some song and dance about the Boost Mobile towers being shut down and they will make a note of my problem.  Guess what?  In a few short days I will be switching carriers completely!  I am no longer happy!  They also shorted me 3 weeks of my mobile hot spot in October because I didn't run on down to change my sim!  I had just paid my bill for November and they shut it off again!  I called and they kept telling me to pay my bill!  I told the lady in customer service check again!  If I don't get service in the next few minutes I will be stopping the payment that I made last night by credit card!  I have service, but really crappy service!  Why force everyone to jump on board with new sims if you weren't ready for everything?  All it has done is piss us all off!   I convinced my boyfriend to switch to Boost Mobile 9 month ago.  He also had nothing but problems with the new sim.  I was on the phone with customer service in the parking lot of Boost Mobile because nothing would work on his phone!  2 hours later they finally got it working, but he was having more problems after that.  He switched to a new carrier a week later.  I have waited it out but I'm sick and tired of not being able to text photos especially during the holidays.  I'm out!

I just learned of this and have not contacted them yet, but it might be this, then again not. Before Boost I was on my

sister's account with Verizon. I went to get a new charging cord and while I was waiting I overheard the representative

explaining to a customer why is old phone would not work after they went to 5G. He said it's like how older diesel

trucks do not run well on the new formulated diesel they now sale in California. I didn't know that. I will add another

post when I find out what the facts are. If prices go up well of course they are. My social security increased and it

seems like everything in my life is going up like they smell money. Effing wolves.
